Patek Philippe Calatrava - 35mm - Ref; 3429
Produced around 1965, the Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 3429 in 18ct yellow gold is a masterclass in proportion, restraint, and mechanical excellence. Measuring a perfectly balanced 35mm, this elegant gentleman’s watch captures everything that defines Patek Philippe’s golden era of watchmaking. Its silver opaline dial, small seconds display, and discreet baton hands offer an understated façade, subtly concealing one of the finest self-winding movements of the 20th century. The screw-down case back, crafted by renowned Geneva case maker Edouard Wenger, was engineered to hermetically seal and protect the movement within. Powering this timepiece is the legendary calibre 27-460, a landmark automatic movement featuring a free-sprung Gyromax balance for enhanced precision, an 18ct gold winding rotor adorned with a deeply cut Calatrava emblem, and Patek Philippe’s elegant twin-pawl winding system. Bearing the Geneva Seal and USA export marks, and with production believed to be fewer than 1,000 examples between 1961 and 1969, the ref. 3429 stands as a rare and historically significant expression of mid-century haute horology that modern watches still strive to emulate.
